New Zealand merchant activation guide
DPS customers need to arrange a “merchant facility” with one, or a combination of “acquirers” listed in the following page.
Requirements for accepting Visa and MasterCard
- If you want to accept Visa and MasterCard, DPS customers / merchants need to contact either: ANZ (NZ), ASB, BNZ, NBNZ (National Bank) or Westpac (NZ).
- At present, the only bank in New Zealand which supports multi-currency transaction processing is BNZ. Please click here for more information.
- Please make sure to advise your banking representative that you are using Payment Express® and that you need an ‘electronic merchant number’ (sometimes called a terminal ID) from your bank for DPS to process transactions. If your bank is ASB, the type of electronic merchant number to request in an ETSL number. If your bank is ANZ or The National Bank then please request an EFTPOS number. If your bank is BNZ, please request a BNZ merchant number. If you will be going through Westpac, you will need a MAF merchant number.

*1 ASB Bank – ASB Bank merchants requiring an ecommerce facility are enrolled for 3D Secure by default and must implement a DPS hosted solution. Merchant numbers are in the format '805XXX' or '806XXX'. For Preauthorisation and completion please contact ASB to enable, for more information see below.
*2 BNZ – BNZ merchants that require NZD processing only must request an 8 digit merchant number (format: 'XXXXXXXX'). BNZ merchants that require multi-currency processing must provide two BNZ Merchant Numbers; one for NZD and one for international currencies. BNZ merchants that are only processing NZD transactions will only need to provide one BNZ merchant number.
*3 ANZ / National – ANZ and National Bank merchants requiring an ecommerce facility will need EFTPOS numbers in the format 'DXXXXXXX'.
*4 Westpac New Zealand – Westpac New Zealand merchants requiring an ecommerce facility are enrolled for 3D Secure by default and must implement a DPS hosted solution. Merchant numbers are in the format '33XXXXXXX'.
Preauthorization / Completion (Tipping)
Preauthorization / completion is a two stage transactional process which involves validating a credit card in its first phase before completing the transaction. To facilitate this type of transaction, preauthorization / completion or tipping as it is sometimes known as must be enabled at your bank.
ASB merchants must request for this specifically
at time of application with DPS and when configuring merchant banking facilities
with ASB.
ANZ, National Bank, BNZ and Westpac merchants have this option enabled by default.

3D Secure Authentication
All users of DPS hosted solutions Hosted Payments Package) can use an MPI (merchant plug-in) developed by DPS for 3D secure authentication at no additional cost. To enable this functionality, you will need to enroll as a 3D Secure merchant with your bank. This feature is a mandatory requirement for all ASB and Westpac merchants.
Once you have enrolled, you (the merchant) will be provided with a ‘Visa Merchant ID’, ‘MasterCard Merchant ID’, ‘Visa Merchant Password’ and ‘Merchant Category Code’. You will need to provide this information to DPS prior to activation, along with the website activation checklist (more information on this checklist is listed in section 3.0).

Requirements for accepting American Express and JCB
For processing of American Express and JCB cards, DPS customer are required to
obtain an American Express "merchant number" and "terminal ID" exclusively for
DPS use,
- If you are an existing American Express merchant call American Express directly on 0800 800 855 option 3 and ensure your current merchant number is exclusively in use with DPS. If not please request an additional merchant number exclusively for DPS use. Please also request that American Express issue a terminal ID for the Merchant number to be used in DPS processing. The “terminal ID” provided by American Express will take 1-2 business days to be loaded by American Express.
- If you are not currently an American Express merchant call American Express directly on 0800 800 855 option 4 and discuss becoming an American Express merchant, requesting a "merchant number" and "terminal ID" for DPS use.
- DPS can load this merchant number as soon as you give us the terminal ID and at that stage DPS can tell you if it is active yet or not. If the terminal ID is not active when DPS load it you will need to follow up with American Express Directly on 0800 800 855 option 3 to confirm if/when your terminal ID is operational.

Extended Booking Info / CPC (Corporate Purchase Cards)
Extended booking info allows you to send 2nd and 3rd level transaction data to DPS which will be displayed on the card holder’s statement. At present this is only available through American Express. If you wish to have this facility please inform American Express and DPS at time of application.
Requirements for accepting Diners
- To process Diners, DPS requires your Diners Merchant Number. Please contact Diners on 0800 280 544 and be sure to identify yourself as a DPS customer.
